EXHIBITION “OCEAN FUTURES”
For billions of years, the oceans have shaped our planet and served as the foundation of all life. Yet their future is at stake: the climate crisis, species extinction, pollution, and geopolitical tensions—all of these threaten the oceans, their creatures, and ultimately ourselves. The special exhibition „Ocean Futures“ at Futurium explores the critical questions of tomorrow.
Between the Baltic Sea and the Philippines—A Speculative Vision of the Future
Across 150 square meters, visitors are immersed in a future in which our planet’s coastal regions are reimagined. The exhibition centers on the stories of two fishing families—one from the Philippines and one from Germany. They tell of life by and with the sea, of hopes and concerns, and of dreams and wishes for the future of the oceans. Although more than 10,000 km separate the families, they are connected by many commonalities. This makes it clear that the oceans are not merely a resource, but also a source of culture, identity, and the shaping of the future.
The DAM provided content guidance for the exhibition and supported it in collaboration with scientists from the DAM research missions—both behind the scenes and with a presentation on the panel at the opening event.
