Strategy Groups

Understanding the sea - shaping the future

The DAM Strategy Groups focus on major scientific topics, particularly those of high societal relevance related to the oceans and seas. Their mandate is to help shape the strategic direction of marine research and its funding priorities. They also prepare the findings of marine research in their respective fields for use in policy advising and serve as points of contact.

The strategy groups were originally established by the member institutions of the German Marine Research Consortium (KDM), which merged with the DAM in mid-2026 to form a joint association for German marine research. Under this umbrella, the strategy groups will continue to operate as before.

At their core, the strategy groups are rooted in the marine sciences. They ensure the inclusion of non-natural science research areas and provide marine science working groups at institutions that are not members of the DAM with ample opportunities for participation. Organized by topic, they also facilitate the involvement of other relevant stakeholders as guests.
