PARLIAMENTARY BREAKFAST “Offshore wind, biodiversity and fisheries: mega- or multi-use of the seas?”

Time
Thursday, 28. September 2023, 7:45 - 9:00

Location

The German Marine Research Alliance (DAM), the DAM research mission sustainMare, and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) invite to a parliamentary breakfast on September 28, 2023 on the topic “Offshore wind, biodiversity and fisheries: mega- and/or multi-use of the oceans?”.

The oceans are an important resource for food, raw materials and as a source of energy. However, fishing, exploitation of resources and site development are increasingly polluting the oceans, changing the marine environment and endangering biodiversity.

Current developments in the field of energy, marine environment and fishery policies will be addressed, highlighting the associated economic and environmental challenges as well as the linkages between these developments.

On site, the following experts will provide brief insights into their research:

  • Dr. Andreas Kannen, Offshore Wind Energy, Helmholtz Center Hereon
  • Prof. Dr. Helmut Hillebrand, Biodiversity in the North and Baltic Seas, Helmholtz Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity at the University of Oldenburg
  • Dr. Ralf Döring, Future of Fisheries, Thünen Institute of Sea Fisheries

If you are a representative of politics, organized civil society or media interested in participating in the event, please feel free to contact us by mail: veranstaltungen@allianz-meeresforschung.de.
