UN OCEAN CONFERENCE (UNOC) 2025 in Nice
From June 9 to 13, 2025, the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 2025) will take place in Nice, France. Co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, the conference aims to accelerate and mobilize global action to protect and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources. Marine experts from politics, science, civil society, business, international institutions and indigenous communities will come together with the aim of adopting a joint marine action plan in Nice. UNOC 2025 is an important milestone in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 “Life Below Water”.
As Germany’s contribution to UNOC 2025, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) is making the German research vessel METEOR available as a conference and event venue. From June 9 to 12, 2025, around 30 events will take place here in the marina in Nice, including scientific panel discussions, receptions and multimedia formats as a platform for cross-sector dialog and exchange.
DAM contributions to UNOC 2025:
- On June 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the DAM invites you to the round table “Solution–oriented marine research: global perspectives” at METEOR: The aim of the interactive session with renowned researchers from all over the world is to develop actionable recommendations – if possible in the form of a strategy paper – on the most important conditions and mechanisms to advance solution-oriented research both at national and international level.
- The DAM is also providing substantial support for the V.ECOP Days event for young talents initiated by German marine research: from June 9 to 10, ECOP contributions from all over the world will be presented in an attractive and content-rich format in a kind of “breakfast television format”. Mobile journalists will conduct interviews on site in Nice and report live from side events and UNOC 3.
The side event at Meteor “V.ECOP Days 2025 – ECOPs shaping the Ocean’s future” on June 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. will also serve to promote the exchange between marine researchers and politics as well as between generations and disciplines.
