Forum for young marine researchers: ICYMARE in Oldenburg

Exchange and networking with marine researchers from all over the world: this is what the annual International Conference ICYMARE offers young scientists. This year, the event will take place from September 18 to 22 in Oldenburg. The programme includes lectures on marine research, workshops and a variety of evening events. The German Alliance for Marine Research (DAM) has been supporting ICYMARE for several years and is sponsoring the poster session this year. Young scientists will present their research projects and discuss them in a relaxed atmosphere with drinks and snacks. The NFDI4EarthAcademy, in which DAM is also involved, will present its data science funding programme.

“The sustainable use of our oceans is crucial for our future – many young people are aware of this and it’s very important to them,” says Ute Wilhelmsen, Head of the Core Area Transfer at DAM. But what does this sustainable use look like? “To evaluate this, we need excellent marine research,” Wilhelmsen continues. “Young people enrich science immensely with new ideas and perspectives.”

ICYMARE plays a key role as a platform for young marine researchers. The title is short for International Conference for Young Marine Researchers. The conference is organised entirely by volunteers and offers valuable opportunities for exchange and networking in early scientific careers. What makes it special is the chance to gain initial conference experience in a relaxed yet professional setting and to talk about topics that are specifically relevant to young researchers.

In order to make it possible for all interested parties to participate, the conference fee is based on the budget of students/doctoral researchers and amounts to 20 euros.
