Both deputy members of the DAM Executive Board were confirmed in their function by the General Assembly and the Administrative Board

Matthes and Bathmann start their second term of office

Katja Matthes, Director of GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, and Ulrich Bathmann, Senior Professor of Earth System Research at the University of Rostock and former Director of the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW), will continue their work as deputy board members of the German Marine Research Alliance (DAM). After their term of office expires in May 2025 after four years in accordance with the statutes, the DAM Board of Directors has now confirmed the re-election of both candidates by the General Assembly in February of this year.

The four-member DAM Executive Board is responsible for the management of the Deutsche Allianz Meeresforschung e.V. and implements the common goals of the DAM on behalf of the General Assembly. It also develops the strategic and conceptual direction of the DAM in consultation with members and the Board of Directors. Katja Matthes and Ulrich Bathmann each took office as deputy board members in May 2021. Ulrich Bathmann has also been Chairman of the German Marine Research Consortium (KDM), which works closely with the DAM, since 2012. Both institutions are currently preparing the merger of KDM and DAM into a joint association for German marine research.

“We are delighted that Katja Matthes and Ulrich Bathmann will continue to be available to DAM as members of the Executive Board,” explains Joachim Harms, Chairman of the Executive Board of DAM. “With their professional expertise, their network and their admirable personal commitment, they have greatly enriched and strategically advanced the development of DAM from the very beginning. We thank them wholeheartedly for this and look forward to continuing to work together for a more sustainable approach to coasts, seas and oceans.”
