Setting sail for a new joint marine research association!

Merger agreement between DAM and KDM signed / Executive Board elected

The authorised signatories of the executive boards of the German Marine Research Alliance (DAM) and the German Marine Research Consortium (KDM) today signed the merger agreement between the two marine research associations. This officially completes their merger.

The new association will combine the previous activities of both associations – the name Deutsche Allianz Meeresforschung (German Marine Research Alliance), or DAM for short, will be retained.

The members of DAM and KDM had previously approved the merger at their respective general meetings. The next step is formal approval by the Administrative Board, which officially welcomed the merger.

New association board elected

The board of the ‘new’ DAM comprises five people who were elected or confirmed in office today:

  • Kai-Uwe Hinrichs, Director of MARUM
  • Dr Kerstin Jochumsen, Head of the Department of Oceanography at the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH)
  • Katja Matthes, Director of GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel
  • Torsten Schlurmann, Managing Director of the Ludwig Franzius Institute for Hydraulic Engineering, Estuarine and Coastal Engineering (LuFI) at Leibniz University Hannover and the Coastal Research Centre.
  • The current chair, Joachim Harms, will accompany the new board in its first steps as chair of the board.

Congratulations to the elected candidates and many thanks to all participants for their straightforward, constructive cooperation! We very much look forward to (further) working together towards the sustainable management of coasts, seas and oceans!
